What Happens After You Book a Portrait Session?

Booking a portrait session is exciting, but if you've never worked with a professional photographer before, you may be wondering what happens next.

At Tyeshia Barnes Photography, my goal is to make the experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. From the moment you reserve your session until your final images are delivered, you'll know exactly what to expect.

Step 1: Reserve Your Session

Once you're ready to book, your session date is secured with a non-refundable booking fee. This guarantees your appointment and allows us to begin planning your portrait experience.

The remaining balance is due 48 hours before your scheduled session.

Step 2: Planning Your Session

This is where your portraits begin to come to life.

We'll discuss:

The purpose of your portraits
Your preferred style and overall vision
Clothing ideas
Location options
Colors and mood
Any special requests you may have

Whether you're updating family portraits, celebrating a milestone, or simply creating beautiful images for yourself, careful planning helps create photographs you'll love for years to come.

Step 3: Choosing What to Wear

Wardrobe plays a significant role in the final look of your portraits.

I recommend choosing clothing that:

Coordinates without being overly matching
Reflects your personality
Fits comfortably
Complements your session location

Solid colors and timeless styles often photograph beautifully and help keep the focus where it belongs—on you.

Step 4: Optional Hair and Makeup

Professional hair and makeup is available as an optional add-on for clients who would like a little extra help getting camera-ready.

While many clients choose to do their own styling, others enjoy the confidence and convenience of having a professional artist prepare them before the session begins. If you add hair and makeup this will be completed by a professional artist who will arrive at the time your session begins and will be there to touchup if necessary.

The choice is entirely yours.

Step 5: Portrait Day

You don't need to worry about knowing how to pose.

One of the most common things I hear is:

"I'm awkward in front of the camera."

That's perfectly normal.

Throughout your session, I'll guide you with natural posing and direction so you can relax and enjoy the experience. My goal is to capture genuine expressions and authentic moments rather than stiff, uncomfortable poses.

Step 6: Your Images

After your session, your images are carefully reviewed and professionally edited.

Once they're ready, you'll receive access to your private online gallery where you can view your portraits and select your favorites.

From there, you can choose the products and artwork that best fit your home and your family.
